Yale’s “fascism expert” flees to Canada because he can’t handle free speech and a functioning democracy in America.
A Yale professor who claims to be an expert on fascism has dramatically announced he’s abandoning the United States for Canada, insisting America is “tilting towards a fascist dictatorship.” Jason Stanley, who ironically teaches philosophy at one of America’s most elite institutions, is taking his ball and going home – or rather, to the University of Toronto – because he’s upset that universities are facing consequences for allowing anti-American and antisemitic protests to run rampant on campuses. Stanley’s theatrical exodus represents the latest example of the left’s hysterical overreaction to the restoration of constitutional order and common sense in America’s governance.
Even the dumbass Marxist profs are self-deporting. 😁

The Drama Queen Professor Who Cried “Fascism”
Let’s be clear about what’s happening here: A privileged academic who has made his career by calling everything he disagrees with “fascism” is now fleeing to Canada because universities are being held accountable for allowing radical anti-American protests on campus. Stanley claims his decision to abandon Yale was “entirely because of the political climate in the United States,” apparently unable to cope with a country where universities might face consequences for enabling extremism. The irony of a “fascism expert” running away because people who disagree with him are now in power seems completely lost on him.
This is the same academic who authored books with fear-mongering titles like “How Fascism Works” (2018) and “Erasing History” (2024). If his definition of fascism includes requiring universities to maintain order and protect all students on campus, then perhaps we need to question who the real extremist is. What Stanley and his ilk can’t seem to understand is that enforcing rules equally and protecting Jewish students from harassment isn’t fascism – it’s basic decency and law enforcement.
The Nazi Germany Comparison: Liberal Hysteria at its Finest
In perhaps his most outrageous claim, Stanley compares his decision to leave America to Jewish intellectuals fleeing Nazi Germany in the 1930s. This comparison isn’t just historically illiterate – it’s deeply offensive to actual Holocaust survivors and their descendants. Last I checked, professors criticizing the government aren’t being rounded up and sent to concentration camps. They’re free to spout their nonsense on any platform they choose, collect hefty salaries, and even dramatically announce they’re moving to Canada.
The sheer privilege on display here is staggering. Stanley complains that Columbia University “capitulated” by increasing security measures following destructive protests. Heaven forbid a university try to maintain order and protect all students on campus! This is the twisted logic of the academic left: enforcing basic safety measures is “fascism,” but allowing anti-Jewish harassment to run unchecked is somehow “free speech.” If Stanley is so concerned about fascism, perhaps he should examine why he’s upset about protecting Jewish students from intimidation.
The Real Reason Behind the Great Liberal Exodus
What’s really happening here is that academics like Stanley can’t handle not being in control of the narrative anymore. For decades, the left has dominated academia, creating echo chambers where conservative viewpoints are silenced. Now that their monopoly on discourse is being challenged, they’re taking their toys and going home – or in this case, to Canada. Stanley claims the Trump administration is engaging in “educational authoritarianism,” but what he’s really upset about is that the days of unchallenged leftist indoctrination in universities are numbered.
“Educational authoritarianism is frequently accompanied by more general restrictions on knowledge, and by attempts to push mythic representations in place of that knowledge.” – Jason Stanley
This supposed expert on fascism doesn’t recognize that true fascism silences opposition – exactly what has been happening on college campuses to conservative voices for years. The reality is that Stanley and his intellectual comrades are experiencing something entirely new: accountability. When universities fail to protect all students and allow certain groups to be targeted, there should be consequences. That’s not fascism – it’s governance and enforcement of existing laws.
Good Riddance to Academic Elitists
If the price of restoring sanity to American universities is watching a few over-privileged professors self-deport to Canada, I’d say that’s a bargain. Stanley claims he’ll “continue defending democracy from Toronto,” which is rich coming from someone running away because the democratic process delivered results he doesn’t like. Perhaps the University of Toronto is a better fit for someone so detached from reality and so determined to cast normal governance as tyranny.
America remains the freest, most democratic nation on earth – which is precisely why it’s laughable to hear elites like Stanley cast it as a fascist regime. True fascism doesn’t allow critics to publish books, teach at prestigious universities, give interviews to Vanity Fair, and peacefully relocate to other countries. In fact, Stanley’s very ability to leave and criticize the government without consequences proves his entire premise wrong. As far as I’m concerned, Canada is welcome to him – perhaps now Yale can hire a philosophy professor who actually understands what freedom means.
