How Did This Happen: Biden / Trump Camp’s Blaming Each Other

Recently, we found something pretty interesting. There’s a base in Cuba where Chinese spies are said to be working. Guess what? It’s been there since before 2019! That’s what an official from President Biden’s team says. This base can do something quite extraordinary. It can snatch electronic signals from American military and commercial places.

When President Biden started his job, he was told about this base. Not just this, he also learned that China plans to make more such bases elsewhere. At first, the officials didn’t want to admit that the base existed. But now, they’re saying it was President Trump’s fault. They argue that he left behind this problem and that the base was upgraded in 2019.

But guess who disagrees with this? Yes, it’s President Trump himself. He said on his Truth Social account, “China just, effectively, took over Cuba. This would never have happened if I was in charge!” His former intelligence director, John Ratcliffe, also denies that this base was there when Trump was President. He thinks it’s absurd, just like the spy balloon case.

Last week, a big revelation came out in the Wall Street Journal. The news was about an agreement between China and Cuba for a spy facility in Cuba. This facility can keep an eye on the U.S.! Because Cuba is very close to Florida, less than 100 miles away, this place is ideal for China to catch electronic signals from military bases and naval traffic.

Guess what? Beijing, the capital of China, was said to be paying Cuba billions of dollars for this agreement.

But National Security Council’s spokesman, John Kirby, denied these reports. He didn’t clarify which parts he disagreed with. However, he did admit to concerns about China’s friendship with Cuba. Yet, an American official says that Cuba and China have agreed to improve the base.

Cuban officials don’t agree with the Wall Street Journal’s report either. They say they don’t want a foreign military presence in the Caribbean and Latin America.

China’s Foreign Ministry also knows nothing about this base. Their spokesperson even called America hypocritical. But now, John Kirby confirms there’s a base. Still, he doesn’t want to share more details. He says that the Biden administration is working to reduce any risks linked to it.

While all this is happening, Secretary of State Antony Blinken is planning to visit Beijing on June 18. But we don’t know how this news of the Chinese spy facility might change his plans. He had canceled an earlier trip there because of a Chinese spy balloon incident. He’s set to meet some prominent officials, but it’s not sure if he’ll meet President Xi Jinping. Only time will tell how this exciting saga unfolds.
