Right after the Justice Department moved to reverse its stiff sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone, President Donald Trump abruptly decided to withdraw the nomination of former U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu for the role of undersecretary for terrorism and financial crimes at the Treasury Department, Fox News reported.
Trump was reportedly very dissatisfied with the recommended sentence for Stone, and apparently it was Liu who was the U.S. attorney overseeing the case – which is why he chose to axe her.
Controversial DOJ move
Monday and Tuesday saw a flurry of activity surrounding the case of Roger Stone. The prosecuting attorneys on the case had recommended a 7-to-9-year sentence for Stone.
That recommendation was apparently made without consulting the higher-ups in the department, and the recommendation was sent to the judge without Attorney General Bill Barr’s approval, which is why early this week, the Department of Justice (DOJ) decided to change its sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone – a former campaign associate of Donald Trump’s.
Needless to say, the decision made a lot of people angry – including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi – and has since caused a lot of chaos on the internet by Democrat activists.
Trump Is Happy Though
However, there is one person who is happy with the DOJ’s decision – and that person is President Donald Trump himself.
Trump lobbied very hard to reduce Roger Stone’s harsh sentence. So the fact that the DOJ is reversing course is a huge political victory for the president.
But not only is this a big victory, but it’s also proof of mismanagement by the prosecuting attorneys regarding Stone – which is a situation that Trump needed to deal with. That’s why Trump has decided clean house by withdrawing the nomination of former U.S. Attorney Jessie Liu. Trump doesn’t want that kind of mismanagement surrounding him, which is undoubtedly a smart choice on President Trump’s part.
