New York Attorney General Letitia James, who slapped Trump with a $454 million judgment, is now facing demands for her own resignation as her legal overreach against political opponents hits dangerous new levels.
Letitia James, who has built her career targeting Donald Trump and conservative causes, finds herself in hot water as the former president calls for her immediate resignation. The embattled New York Attorney General, after successfully pursuing a civil fraud case resulting in a staggering $454 million penalty against Trump, is now facing serious backlash for what many view as politically motivated prosecutions. Her latest moves, including filing amicus briefs against Trump administration policies and targeting law firms working with conservatives, have raised concerns about abuse of power and political weaponization of her office. Meanwhile, Trump maintains that the original fraud case was a witch hunt orchestrated by a “totally corrupt politician.”
Trump Demands James’ Immediate Resignation Amid Mounting Concerns
The ongoing war between former President Donald Trump and New York Attorney General Letitia James has reached a boiling point. “Letitia James, a totally corrupt politician, should resign from her position as New York State Attorney General, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump declared following a civil fraud trial that resulted in a New York judge finding Trump liable for allegedly inflating asset values and ordering him to pay an outrageous $454 million in penalties. Trump, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing, posted a $175 million bond while appealing what he considers a grossly unjust decision driven by political bias rather than actual legal violations.

The timing of Trump’s call for resignation comes as James has doubled down on what appears to be a vendetta against the former president and his policies. James filed the original lawsuit in 2022 after a lengthy investigation that many conservatives viewed as a fishing expedition designed to hamstring Trump politically rather than serve justice. After securing her politically valuable judgment, James triumphantly declared, “No matter how rich, powerful, or politically connected you are — no one is above the law.” The irony of her statement seems lost on an Attorney General who many believe selectively enforces the law based on political affiliations.
James Leads Coalition Against Trump Administration Policies
In what appears to be a coordinated attack on the Trump administration’s executive authority, James has assembled a coalition of 20 attorneys general to file amicus briefs supporting law firms targeted by Trump for their work on causes opposed to his administration. This move follows Executive Orders that imposed sanctions on firms like Jenner & Block LLP and WilmerHale LLP for legal work the administration deemed harmful to national interests. The orders directed federal officials to suspend security clearances and deny engagement with employees of these firms, measures intended to protect American interests from legal sabotage.
“Targeting and sanctioning law firms for representing clients that the president disagrees with is unconstitutional and undemocratic,” said Attorney General James. “The right to counsel and free speech is enshrined in the Constitution, and no president can take that away on a whim. I am proud to stand with these law firms as they courageously challenge these unconstitutional Executive Orders and defend the rule of law.”
What James conveniently fails to mention is that these law firms weren’t targeted for merely representing clients but for actively undermining legitimate executive actions aimed at protecting American sovereignty and security. Her crusade appears less about protecting constitutional principles and more about obstructing the Trump administration’s ability to implement policies supported by millions of Americans who voted for them. The coalition’s argument that these orders violate the First Amendment rings hollow when considering James’s own selective approach to constitutional protections.
Immigration Policy Becomes Latest Battlefield
Not content with just one front in her war against the Trump administration, James has also led a coalition of 18 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief against what they’ve dubbed the “Ideological Deportation Policy.” This policy, designed to enforce immigration laws against non-citizens who abuse their visa privileges to engage in anti-American activities, has been mischaracterized by James as an assault on free speech. In reality, the policy addresses a serious national security concern about foreign nationals who enter the country and then engage in activities harmful to American interests.
“Our democracy depends on the freedom to think, to speak, and to learn without fear,” said Attorney General James. “No one should face detention or deportation for exercising their right to free speech – not in New York, or in any other state in our nation. This policy is a dangerous overreach, and I will not allow fear and censorship to replace freedom and opportunity. My office is standing firmly against any effort to weaponize immigration to silence free speech and dissent.”
The hypocrisy is breathtaking. James, who has no problem using the full weight of her office to target political opponents like Trump with dubious legal theories, suddenly becomes a champion of freedoms when it comes to defending non-citizens who abuse America’s hospitality. The policy, which reportedly led to over 800 visa cancellations affecting students and scholars engaged in activities contrary to their visa terms, is a reasonable exercise of immigration enforcement. Yet James portrays common-sense national security measures as some kind of dystopian crackdown on academic freedom.
A Pattern of Political Prosecution
The demands for James’s resignation highlight a disturbing pattern that has emerged during her tenure as New York’s Attorney General. Elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, James campaigned on promises to investigate Trump, essentially running on a platform of targeting a specific individual rather than upholding impartial justice. This pre-commitment to prosecuting a political figure before investigating any specific wrongdoing turns the principle of blind justice on its head and represents exactly the kind of politically motivated prosecution that undermines public trust in our legal institutions.
James’s willingness to use her office as a weapon against political opponents while claiming to defend democratic principles creates a dangerous precedent. If attorneys general can campaign on promises to prosecute specific individuals and then use the vast resources of their offices to fulfill those campaign promises, we no longer have a justice system – we have legalized political persecution. Trump’s call for James’s resignation may be motivated by personal grievance, but it raises legitimate questions about whether she can fulfill her oath to uphold the law impartially while so openly pursuing a political agenda.
