This Wednesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell took the Senate floor. In a fiery speech, McConnell demanded that the Senate acquit President Trump as soon as the impeachment trial starts – telling them to avoid the catastrophe that the House got itself into by pushing the impeachment through for absolutely no legitimate reason.
The Hill reported the story:
“While speaking, McConnell warned the Senate not to fall into the same trap as the House, and all but demanded an acquittal of President Donald Trump as soon as the impeachment trial begins…“
A humiliating blow for Democrats
The reason McConnell’s speech has stirred up so much controversy among Democrats is because he directly pointed to the failures of Democrat House members. After all, it was Democrats who pushed the impeachment decision through – with the help of Nancy Pelosi.
By pointing to the impeachment decision as a failure, McConnell is effectively calling Democrats stupid for their decision, while at the same time providing a voice of reason among Senate members.
What we hope happens.
Although anything could happen at this point, it’s very likely that the Senate will listen to McConnell. If they acquit President Donald Trump, it would be one of the biggest victories for the Republican Party in decades – and would ultimately give Trump a very big boost heading into the 2020 election.
What McConnell did was fantastic. He made a decision to stand up for Trump, and by doing so, he might end up securing a major presidential victory for Trump in the process.
