The communist Chinese government is silencing its people. They covered up Coronavirus. And now Senator Tom Cotton wants to stop their influence in America’s education system.
According to Breitbart, Sen. Tom Cotton is officially recommending criminal charges against any academic or college professor who takes money from the communist Chinese government.
Cotton Targets Chinese Money
On Wednesday’s Fox Business show “Mornings with Maria,” Senator Tom Cotton said that it’s time to make it illegal for academics and college professors to accept money from the Chinese Communist Party or state-owned enterprises of China. Cotton says that it’s a matter of national security because China is a threat to intellectual property and national security in America.
Cotton says that the Chinese Communist Party is trying to bribe American educators to steal American technology, and it’s time for the American government to intervene, saying:
“The Chinese Communist Party continues its campaign of intellectual property theft and forced technology transfer. It is past time for us to insist this stop.”
Cotton says that the Trump administration and President Trump have been taking steps to make it illegal for China to interfere with American technology development. Cotton even suggested that it’s time to criminalize the payment of money to American professors and academics who are on the payroll of Communist China:
“The Trump administration and the president have been doing that in various ways. I’ve got legislation that would take more steps, as well. So, for instance, criminalizing the payment of money to American professors and academics who are on the payroll of the Chinese Communist Party or their state-owned enterprises.”
Cotton continued, saying that the laws right now aren’t harsh enough against Communist China, saying:
“It’s the act of accepting the Chinese money, itself, that should be criminalized. There are other steps we can take, as well, to stand up for American companies that shouldn’t have to transfer their intellectual property to Chinese partners simply as a condition of doing business with Chinese consumers.”
Why Cotton Wants This
Cotton’s call for the criminalization of Chinese money comes just weeks after a University of Arkansas professor with ties to China was charged by the federal government for wire and passport fraud.
After the charges, Cotton called for stronger action against academics who take money from the Chinese government, saying:
“The Chinese Communist Party has long used American universities to conduct espionage on the United States. What’s worse is that their efforts exploit gaps in current law. It’s time for that to end.”
