It could end up being one of the biggest Republican victories in years. And Barack Obama’s legacy hangs in the balance.
According to a new report by NBC News, the Supreme Court has just agreed to hear a challenge to the Affordable Care Act, which is also known as Obamacare. If the challenge is successful, Obamacare might be declared unconstitutional in one of the final blows to Barack Obama’s legacy as president.
Supreme Court Agrees To Hear Obamacare Challenge
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court officially announced that it will official listen to arguments that challenge the constitutionality of Obamacare. They will listen to the challenge on November 10th, which is one week after the presidential election between Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
The case against Obamacare is being led by a Texas attorney general who claims that it’s unconstitutional to force Americans to pay a penalty if they choose not to have the Obamacare coverage.
A major part of President Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016 was that he intended to repeal Obamacare. Trump says that he is currently working on a replacement himself.
According to Reuters, Trump said in a statement:
“Obamacare is a disaster. It’s too expensive by far. We’re coming up with plans. … And if the Supreme Court rules that Obamacare is out, we will have a plan that’s far better than Obamacare.”
