It’s official. COVID-19 may have finally reached North Korea.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Kim Jong Un has just called an emergency meeting in North Korea after the first case of the Coronavirus has possibly been confirmed in the hermit country.
State Of Emergency Declared
North Korea has reportedly declared a state of emergency after a person suspected of having coronavirus entered the country.
It’s reported that Kim Jon Un called an emergency meeting to discuss the health threat after a person suspected of having COVID-19 entered the country without permission from South Korea. The government controlled media in North Korea has reported this.
This could likely be the first Coronavirus case in North Korea. Government offficials from the country have claimed that there were no confirmed cases of the disease due to their isolation from the rest of the world.
Kim declared a state of emergency and imposed a lockdown once he found out about the news, and released a statement saying there was a “critical situation in which the vicious virus could be said to have entered the country,” state news agency KCNA reported.
It’s not known what Kim Jong Un yet intends to do.
North Korea Cracks Down
Describing its anti-virus efforts as a ‘matter of national existence,’ North Korea earlier this year shut down nearly all cross-border traffic, banned tourists and mobilized health workers to quarantine anyone with symptoms.
And not only that, but North Korea even it was even recently confirmed that North Koreans will reportedly be subjected to three months of hard labor for not wearing Covid-19 face masks under tough new rules.
North Korean leaders are worried the virus will get out of control due to their very limited economy that it isolated from the rest of the world.
