Once again, another Republican in the United States Senate has decided to betray the American people by refusing to vote for a replacement for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
According to a new report from the Daily Mail, Sen. Lisa Murkowski has just become the second Republican in the United States Senate to confirm that she will NOT vote for Ginsburg’s replacement until after the 2020 election is over.
Murkowski Doesn’t Want Trump Picking A Nominee
In a statement released to the public, Murkowski claims that the reason she won’t vote for a replacement on the Supreme Court is because she didn’t want the Justice replaced early in 2016 after the death of Justice Scalia:
“For weeks, I have stated that I would not support taking up a potential Supreme Court vacancy this close to the election. Sadly, what was then a hypothetical is now our reality, but my position has not changed. I did not support taking up a nomination eight months before the 2016 election to fill the vacancy created by the passing of Justice Scalia.”
And she went on, saying that because she made weird decisions back in 2016, she wants to be weird again today:
“We are now even closer to the 2020 election – less than two months out – and I believe the same standard must apply.”
The fact that Republicans are failing to push a Supreme Court nominee through is an absolute disgrace. They’re so worried about seeming radical that they are literally putting America’s justice system on the line.
Real Republicans like Tom Cotton and President Donald Trump are actually doing their best to fill the Supreme Court. Senator Cotton released a statement recently confirming that he is moving forward “without delay,” saying:
“The Senate will exercise our constitutional duty,’ he said. ‘We will move forward without delay.”
