Trump just did it…
President Donald Trump has just officially signed an executive order requiring online social media companies to STOP online censorship. Trump is calling in the FCC to oversee how companies are silencing people online to make sure that no abuse occurs.
Trump Targets Social Media Giants
On Wednesday afternoon, President Donald Trump had the White House publish his brand new executive order on online censorship. The order will require giant social media companies to be supervised by the FCC to make sure that people’s rights are not being violated.
Acccording to an official statement by the White House:
“Trump’s Executive Order on Preventing Online Censorship, filed a petition… The petition requests that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) clarify that Section 230 does not permit social media companies that alter or editorialize users’ speech to escape civil liability.”
The statement continues:
“The petition also requests that the FCC clarify when an online platform curates content in ‘good faith,’ and requests transparency requirements on their moderation practices, similar to requirements imposed on broadband service providers under Title I of the Communications Act. President Trump will continue to fight back against unfair, un-American, and politically biased censorship of Americans online.”
Americans are praising the decision as a massive win for free speech in America:
This is HUGE: @realDonaldTrump strikes a blow enabling Americans to protect our most essential freedoms from the censors.
