Covert Artificial Speech Developments… OMG!

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly advancing, and its potential uses are expanding. One of the applications of AI technology is speech technology, which can generate coherent and natural responses. Despite its advantages, there are concerns about the impact of this technology on humanity, and industry leaders like Elon Musk have expressed their apprehensions.

Recent reports suggest that Twitter is working on covert AI technology to generate human-like speech secretly. This news has sparked a frenzy in the industry, particularly given Musk’s worries about the catastrophic implications of such technology. However, Musk’s actions suggest a different viewpoint.

Elon Musk, along with a thousand other industry experts, signed an open letter demanding a six-month pause in AI development several weeks ago. The letter emphasized the “dangerous race” in which companies are engaged without fully comprehending the risks. This raises questions about the consistency between Musk’s investment in AI technology and his views.

Recently, Musk purchased 10,000 GPUs worth approximately $10,000 each for his company, which are utilized to perform complex mathematical calculations needed to generate visual content. Furthermore, he recruited two of the brightest minds from DeepMind, a top AI research institute. According to anonymous sources, Musk’s current project entails a large language model (LLM) that is still in its early stages of development. LLMs are AI systems that learn to generate human-like responses from vast amounts of text input, and their processing power can be leveraged to speed up the training process.

Former Twitter employees have claimed that Musk’s recent purchases signify his “commitment” to the development of covert AI speech technology. They speculate that he has invested tens of millions of dollars in the project. However, Musk has justified his decision to lay off 3,700 workers, citing the company’s daily loss of over four million dollars. In February, he let go of another 200 workers, reducing Twitter’s staff to under 2,000 from a high of 7,500 when he took over.

In a recent interview, Musk defended the company’s decision to lay off thousands of workers and discussed the importance of cutting costs and streamlining operations to ensure Twitter’s sustainability. Interestingly, in December, he tweeted that he had prevented OpenAI from accessing the vast amounts of data available on Twitter to train ChatGPT. OpenAI is a research institute dedicated to promoting and developing friendly AI for the betterment of humanity. The tweet suggests that Musk may have concerns about the impact of AI on society.
