This sounds like something straight out of a 1920’s movie.
According to Fox News, 23 people are now dead in a Cambodia prison after prisoners rioted due to panic over the Coronavirus outbreak.
Not only are 23 people dead, but at least 32 prisoners and seven guards were sent to the hospital after the incident. Two of the guards are still in critical condition.
Colombia’s Justice Minister Margarita Cabello also said the riot injured a total of 83 prisoners Sunday.
Fox says, The Justice Ministry is “investigating the incident.”
BBC has revealed that inmates at prisons across the country planned the protests, as 13 other facilities reported disturbances.
Cabello denied that conditions were unsanitary amid the outbreak, saying, “There is not any sanitary problem that would have caused this plan and these riots.”
Why This Matters
The fact that prisons have become more violent due to the Coronavirus should scare everyone. It means the worst people of society are the ones becoming the most agitated by all of these outbreaks.
It’s very possible that the virus will spread rapidly through close-quarter prisons like the one in Cambodia.
It’s no coincidence that in another prison, Harvey Weinstein has just been diagnosed with the virus himself. Imagine how bad it must be in other less sanitary countries.
Things are absolutely going to get worse before they get better.
